The Room Where It Started

There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a room right before a cover is revealed.

We saw it again not long ago. A dinner. A table of people who had spent years building something with no guarantee it would work. A magazine cover turned face-up. And then — the part nobody plans for — the stories started coming out. Not the polished ones. The real ones. The year the money ran out. The family member who didn’t understand. The decision that everyone said was reckless and turned out to be the whole thing.

We left that night with the same thought we’ve had for 63 issues: these stories don’t get told enough.

So we’re doing something about it.

Introducing the Founder’s Edition

The Founder’s Edition is an open invitation. If you’ve built something — a business, a brand, a practice, a movement — we want to hear how you did it. In your own words. Not a press release. Not a pitch deck. The actual story.

Here’s what makes this different from every “submit your story” form you’ve ignored before: you’re not filling out a form.

You’ll sit with an interviewer who listens. Type your answers or speak them out loud — whichever feels more like you. It asks real follow-up questions based on what you actually said, the way a good journalist would. It goes where the story goes. And at the end, it asks the question we care about most: what would you tell a founder who’s three years behind you?

It takes about fifteen minutes. Most people tell us it’s the first time anyone’s asked.

Who this is for

You don’t need a certain revenue number. You don’t need a publicist, a media kit, or a warm introduction. We’ve built this for the founders who are usually last to get asked — Caribbean and Latin builders, faith-driven entrepreneurs, creatives who turned a gift into a company, people running something excellent that nobody outside their city has heard of yet.

If you’ve been waiting for permission, consider this it.

What happens next

Selected stories are featured across CREATIV — digital and print. Features are earned, never purchased; that has been true since 2015 and it isn’t changing.

And there’s something else. Some of the founders who come through this edition will be invited further in — to a smaller table, a private room, the kind of gathering that doesn’t have a signup page. We’re not going to say much more about that here. That’s rather the point.

But it starts with the story. It always has.

Tell us how you built it

The Founder’s Edition is open now.

Fifteen minutes. Your words. A cover that might have your name on it.

We’ll be listening.
